2010 Iowa State Fair to End on an Entertaining Note
Posted 16 August 2010
The 2010 Iowa State Fair is set to end in style on Extreme Sunday, August 22, with a fabulous Grandstand show, an extreme motocross show and a full day of free entertainment. Plus, Fairgoers can take advantage of half-price gate admission and free parking for carloads of five or more in the North Lot all day until 9 p.m. “Non Stop Fun” runs August 12-22.

GRANDSTAND ENTERTAINMENT:
Known for chart-topping songs like “If It Makes You Happy,” “My Favorite Mistake,” “Soak Up the Sun” and “The First Cut Is the Deepest,” nine-time Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow will take the Grandstand stage with special guest Colbie Caillat on Sunday, August 22, at 8 p.m.

Caillat became an overnight success in 2006 when she was one of the first artists discovered through the social networking website, myspace.com. Since then, the 23-year-old’s platinum debut album “CoCo” soared to the top of the charts with single “Bubbly,” which spent fourteen weeks at the top of the Adult Top 40 chart, boasting 2.8 million digital downloads.

Tickets are $35, on sale now through all Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.com, by phone at 800/745-3000 and through the Iowa State Fair Ticket Office. Convenience charges will apply to all tickets. Grandstand tickets do not include admission to the Fair.

GROUNDS ATTRACTIONS:
Experience the excitement of professional motorcycle stunt shows by seasoned riders as they perform awe-inspiring tricks and stunts. Watch as the daring drivers take off of a metal ramp, throwing back flips, flicks, cliff hangers and more in a show that’s perfect for all ages and sure to thrill. The FMX and Ball of Steel Stunt Motocross Show lights up the Grand Concourse at 1 and 5 p.m.

FREE STAGE ENTERTAINMENT:
With hit singles like “When It Rains” and “Always the Love Songs,” the Eli Young Band has landed performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno as well as at the Grand Ole Opry and CMT Awards. The band will perform on the Susan Knapp Amphitheater stage at 8 p.m.

Performing both originals and cover songs, The Blue Band is influenced by blues, soul, rockabilly and rhythm and blues. The group will perform two shows at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on the Anderson Erickson Dairy Stage.

Don’t miss Richie Lee and the Fabulous Fifties perform Buddy Holly hits and other great sounds from the 1950s. Richie Lee takes Budweiser Stage at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.

The Grass Roots was one of the most listened to groups on the radio during the 1960s and 1970s, charting 29 singles, two gold albums and one platinum album en route to sales of over 20 million records worldwide. Thirty years later, lead vocalist Rob Grill and The Grass Roots take the Anne and Bill Riley Stage at 8 p.m.

During the day, grab a seat at the Anne and Bill Riley Stage for Bill Riley’s Talent Search Finals beginning at 1:30 p.m. Over 350 talented acts from across the state qualified to compete in this year’s competition. More than $15,000 will be awarded to winners in both the Junior and Senior divisions.

In addition to all the musical talent and thrill shows, Fairgoers can also enjoy one final day of Fair food favorites, strolling acts Bandaloni and Rock-It the Robot, interactive fun with Shenaniguns Wild West Comedy Show and the Sinbad High Dive Show and entertainment on the Fun Forest Stage.
