Most often the
hardest step to take when starting a business is that very first one.
Once you get past writing a business plan and doing your homework, and
you get some skin in the game, things get real in a hurry. Carrie
Beenken, owner of The Changing Season in Waverly, Iowa, and her husband
Dan (of MyEntre.Net’s staff) will share their first hand experience on
what it’s been like for them along with tips and advice for others.
Carrie Beenken is the owner of The Changing Season, an antique and home
décor shop in Waverly, Iowa. Along with her extremely supportive
husband, Dan, they run the shop in an “occasional store” format,
whereby they are only open for a few days each month.
Carrie’s has an extensive background in retail, having been a
merchandise buyer for both Marshall Field’s and Macy’s Department store
chains in addition to buyer responsibilities for television shopping
network ShopNBC. Her educational background includes a Marketing
degree from Iowa State with a minor in Fashion and Merchandising.
Carrie always wanted to buy and arrange for her own shop rather than
someone else, so earlier this year, that’s exactly what she did with
The Changing Season. The shop is built on her skill sets of picking
assortment and home décor/interior design.
